Mitsubishi’s new compact crossover has broken cover ahead of the Geneva Motor Show.
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross shares only a name with the dearly departed and dearly missed Eclipse sports coupe. The new four-door compact crossover features a raked, two-piece liftgate separated by a light strip that connects the tail lights, a feature similar to the Toyota Prius.
The Eclipse Cross is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre turbo inline-four, backed by a continuously variable transmission. Other markets will get an optional 2.2-litre turbodiesel backed by an eight-speed automatic. No word yet on whether that diesel drivetrain will be available in Canada.
Each Eclipse Cross ships with torque vectoring AWD as standard, sharing a similar footprint with the Outlander Sport.
We’ll bring you full details of the Eclipse Cross next week from its Geneva debut.
