What is it? The next-generation Mercedes-Benz E63 arrives with bolder looks, more power and it now drives all four wheels, which is a marked departure from previous models. Fear not as there is a drift mode, so flicking the back end out is still part of the 63’s overt repertoire. When it lands it will be offered in E63 4MATIC+ and E 63 S 4MATIC+ models.
Why does it matter? The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine generates 571 horsepower and 553 lb.-ft. of torque in the E63. The E63 S bumps those numbers to 612 hp and 627 lb.-ft. Fast you ask? The two run to 100 km/h in 3.5 and 3.4 seconds, respectively. The engine is also more fuel-efficient thanks to AMG Cylinder Management, which can deactivate two, three or five cylinders during low-load conditions; it can also shut down all eight cylinders when coasting downhill. The engine is teamed with AMG’s Speedshift MCT (Multi Clutch Technology) nine-speed manumatic that comes with a wet-plate start-off clutch for the first time.
When will Canada get it? The 63 4MATIC+ and E63 S 4MATIC+ hit Canadian roads in the summer 2017.
Should you buy it? If you value luxury and want the most powerful E-Class ever produced, this is the car for you. The fact it now powers all four wheels means it is now more than just a summer drive.
