Kia teases a new performance EV coming to Geneva

Kia is prepped to reveal an all-new electric vehicle concept at the Geneva Motor Show, but it isn’t the type you might expect from the Korean economy car brand.

The automaker has offered no information about the new vehicle except that it “is designed to not only get your pulse racing but to also signpost our holistic and emotional approach to electrification.”

From the teaser photo, we can tell this vehicle is drastically different from the rest of the Kia lineup.

The classic “tiger-nose” grille shape has been enlarged and now takes over the whole front fascia, including the headlights. A light strip around the perimeter of the face gives it a great Tron look, as do the thin LED headlights.

The vehicle is low and wide with large fender flares, offering a sort of muscular appeal. The Kia badge is an elegant backlit affair, with the letters coming right out of the bodywork.

Kia already has a good start on an electrified lineup with the Soul EV and the recently introduced e-Niro, and since neither of those really get our “pulse racing,” we can guess the new vehicle will probably have much sportier attributes with less regard for range.

Hopefully, this vehicle strikes some fear into the hearts of competition like the Audi E-Tron GT and perhaps even the Polestar One, as it would be great for a budget-minded brand to take on the world with an EV sports car for the masses.
