New Lexus UX ‘urban crossover’ revealed ahead of Geneva debut

Lexus dropped photos and video of its new UX compact crossover ahead of its official debut in Geneva this week, promising the squat-looking vehicle would deliver handling “as agile as a hatchback.”

The production-spec 2019 UX tones down the wild looks of the UX Concept of 2016 and doesn’t look dissimilar from its Lexus NX sibling.

The UX will be based on the same platform as the Toyota C-HR, though the automaker has not yet released engine or performance specs for its “first urban crossover.” Rivals like the Audi A3 and BMW X1 deliver in excess of 200 horsepower, though Lexus is expected to leave some room between the UX and the up-the-range NX, which sees a 235-hp 2.0-litre turbo underhood in base trim.

Video from Lexus shows off the interior of the UX, which appears to have been inspired by the RX. An infotainment screen atop the dash above the console complements what looks like a digital gauge cluster.
