Jeep reveals Hellcat-powered Grand Cherokee we’ve all been waiting for

The mad engineers at Fiat Chrysler are just the coolest. No other company would endeavour to make a 707-horsepower SUV that a working stiff could actually afford one day.

Sure, you can get the Porsche Cayenne in speedy versions, but the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is so much more rock-and-roll. Set to debut at the New York Auto Show this week, it’s powered by the same, maniacal 6.2-litre supercharged V8 found in the Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcat siblings.

Putting out 707 horsepower and 645 lb.-ft. of torque, the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk can catapult itself from a standstill to 100 km/h 60 in 3.5 seconds, and it runs a quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds.

The Trackhawk’s AWD system can divvy up its considerable power in several ways; normally, it uses a 40/60 front/rear bias. It can shift to an even 50/50 for snowy conditions, and a more aggressive 30/70 torque split in track mode.

The Grand Cherokee Trackhawk rides on 295-millimetre wide tires all around and uses massive Brembo brakes on each corner, which Jeep somewhat unsurprisingly says are the largest it’s ever fitted to one of its vehicles. Suspension duties are handled by adaptive Bilstein shocks.

Canadian pricing and availability has yet to be announced, but we’ll bring you full details from the New York Auto Show later this week.
