Seemingly no Mercedes-Benz is safe from the AMG treatment today, following Mercedes’ official announcement that the GLC 63 and GLC 63 S are on the way.
The GLC 63 is available in a more traditional crossover body style, or as a swoopy four-door “coupe.” In the past, the 63 suffix usually denoted a 6.3L engine under the hood, but instead, you’ll find a heavily boosted 4.0-litre V8.
The twin-turbocharged engine makes 469 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft. of torque in the regular GLC 63 and GLC 63 Coupe. If that isn’t enough, you can spec the GLC 63 S Coupe with more power; while it still uses the twin-turbo V8, the S pumps out 503 horsepower and 516 lb.-ft. of torque.

Both engines are paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is standard. The GLC 63 and GLC 63 Coupe sprint from rest to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, while the GLC 63 S Coupe is two-tenths quicker at 3.7 seconds. Handling is handled – pun intended – by an adjustable air suspension that allows drivers to firm up the dampers for more engaging handling.
Compared to the standard GLC-Class, the GLC 63 AMGs differentiate themselves with a new grille, fender flares, more aggressive bodywork and unique touches on the inside. Both variants of the GLC 63 roll on 19-inch wheels, and the GLC 63 S features 20-inch wheels.
Canadian availability and pricing haven’t been announced just yet, but we’ll bring you more details following the official reveal next week at the New York Auto Show.
