What is it? Audi’s compact A3 sedan was its first small car to get the RS application, the RS 3 we will get in Canada; but the Sportback version will not, unfortunately, be coming to our shores, especially disappointing since it has the world’s most powerful production five-cylinder engine in a unique package.
Why does it matter? The RS 3 Sportback’s 2.5L TFSI delivers 400 hp and 354 lb.-ft. of torque at engine speeds as low as 1,700 rpm. Zero to 100 km/h is done in 4.1 seconds, astonishing figures for such a small car that many would never recognize for being such a rocket. An S tronic, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission transfers power to quattro permanent all-wheel drive.
When will Canada get it? We won’t, unfortunately, but Europeans would be crazy not to embrace such a car.
