Mercedes-Benz is working on expanding its AMG lineup with a new sports sedan.

According to Britain’s Autocar, Mercedes will mark the 50th anniversary of its AMG division with a new, AMG GT-inspired concept known as the GT4. Many of the concept’s exact details are still under wraps, but the company’s twin-turbocharged 4.0L twin-turbo V8 will reportedly sit under the hood, pumping out a whopping 600 horsepower.

Not only that, AMG engineers are also rumoured to be working on integrating an integrated starter generator, which when paired to an electric motor integrated into the car’s transmission, translates to an extra 20 horsepower and bursts of additional power under certain driving conditions, as well as seamless operation of the engine’s automatic stop/start system. Powerful and environmentally friendly? Neat!

Being the third standalone model from AMG, the GT4 will reportedly take aim at the likes of the Audi RS7 and Porsche Panamera. Contrary to what the name suggests, it won’t be based on the same platform as the AMG GT sports car; instead, the GT4 will share its underpinnings with the C63, E63 and S63, but with its own proportions and styling.

We’ll bring you full details on the Mercedes-AMG GT4 concept when the Geneva Motor Show kicks off at the beginning of March.
